STUDY SMARTER, NOT HARDER
1
-
Schedule a regular homework routine and stick to it. I.e. every day after school study for 1-2 hours or right after supper from 7:00 to 9:00.
-
Set up a quiet and comfortable study area.
-
Review class material daily (notes, handouts, problems, etc.).
-
-
Study in short segments (15-20 minutes with short 3-5 min. break in between). We tend to retain more in shorter intervals.
-
WARNING: Be careful not to surf too much during that break! We all know how quickly one can get lost in hours of cat videos and pranks on YouTube!
-
2
BE ORGANIZED!
-
Use assignment notebook/daily planner. Write down events, facts, deadlines etc. down and look at your planner each day so you don't miss anything.
-
3-ring binder or color-coded notebooks/folders may be helpful
-
Keep binder, locker, and book bag neat. Take out old papers and file them, keep current work in front as a reminder and to find easy.
3
REDUCING TEST ANXIETY
-
Good study preparation is the best way to reduce test anxiety.
-
Get a good night sleep the night before the test.
-
Eat a good breakfast.
-
Wear comfortable clothing.
-
Give yourself adequate time to get to your class so your not rushed.
-
Breath! Taking deep breaths, holding them briefly and letting them out slowly can help reduce anxiety.
-
Be positive! Tell yourself you’ll do fine.
