School Counseling

A long time ago...in a town not so far away...I graduated from Lennox High School.  After high school I attended the University of South Dakota. I changed my major several times... I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up...and changed schools.  I graduated with a major in Criminal Justice from Huron University and started my career at the Minnehaha County Regional Juvenile Detention Center.   After about 10 years of this amazing, rewarding and challenging work I went back to school for my Master’s Degree in Counseling in Education from The University of South Dakota.  Since then I have worked in both educational and clinical mental health settings.  Most recently I worked at SD's flagship university, The University of South Dakota.  Another amazing work experience!  Go Yotes!  

 

A few years ago I started leading students on educational tours around the world.  Check out EF Tours and let's see where to go next!

Summer 2021 is Italy and Greece.  See me for details on how you can travel with us.

Although I have traveled the world some, my favorite place to be is SD, whether it be the serenity and adventure of the Black Hills, the wonder of the Palisades or the urban vibe of downtown Sioux Falls, I have 605 Pride!​

I learned so much about psychology, about culture, about gratitude and about people!  I have noticed a common theme in these experiences...education opens the doors to opportunity!

 

This diverse background brought me to Garretson.  As your School Counselor my goal is to open many doors of opportunity. I am 100% committed to helping you.   

 

Besides being a counselor I am a friend, a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a daughter-in-law, a sister-in-law, an auntie, patriot, outdoorswoman, kayaker, lover of music, art, movies, travel, creativity and life!
